Three Brothers Film

Three brothers who love film. Blogging about movies and cinema culture.

I haven’t been this excited for a movie in a while.

The more I see of Prometheus, like the attached trailer, the more it seems like Ridley Scott’s long-awaited return to science-fiction filmmaking will be one for the history books.

I just rewatched Alien last night (the Blu-ray version is crisp and beautiful with terrific sound) and was again astounded by just how atmospheric and creepy and well-acted it is. It truly one of the best horror films ever made, alongside Psycho, The Shining, and The Thing. As well, the film’s mythology is ripe for exploration, making it all the bigger shame that it spawned so many crappy movies (the excellent Aliens, perhaps one of the best sequels ever, not counted among the crap). It’s fascinating that in the one derelict scene, such a rich universe is constructed through no exposition. The mystery is created purely through atmosphere and production design. Prometheus is our opportunity to finally have some of those mysteries revealed.

However excited I am for The Dark Knight Rises (and I am insanely excited), I think I’m even more excited to see Prometheus. This summer could possibly be one of the best ever.
